'Primavera.The Three Graces'

Historically the Three Graces are painted as an entwined unit of women, however I wanted mine to be connected by circular movements of energy - with the energy being Spring and its connotations of rebirth and meandering new growth.

The left hand part of the diptych depicts Thalia, who represents flowering. She is holding a blue flowering hyacinth aloft. Spring flowers and vines encircle her arms and make up her hair.

The right hand part of the diptych depicts Aglaia, who represents radiance, while Euphrosyne who represents joy, is in the foreground. They are captivated by the songbirds around them. Thrushes are nesting and birds are pairing up at the beginning of Spring. An early butterfly is on the wing. After a long silent Winter, Spring is enchanting and joyful with birdsong.

A diptych of pastels.
