'All about Primroses'
I wanted this image to concentrate on the flowers, with the figure's only purpose being that she's eating a primrose. Primula vulgaris, the delicate yellow wild primrose, has always been my favourite wildflower - but there are over 400 varieties of primrose, many of them richly coloured. Soft Pastels can easily replicate that, and I wanted to explore using a full range of jewel-hued pastels, while still maintaining some movement throughout the pic.
I have reintroduced lots of text within the image, as in earlier works. Contained within are the named varieties of primula plus various phrases: 'primrose means first rose'; 'primroses are the symbol of Freya, Goddess of Love'; 'eat a primrose and see a faerie'; 'pick more than 13 primroses for good luck'. Folklore fascinates me!
Spring butterflies and mayflies further embellish the image.
