A Mixed Bunch

Has Time speeded up, or something?

Another month has gone by so quickly. But I have, at last, been in the studio and produced my first decent work of this year!

I had started confidently enough, but after 3 days of arranging the composition, deciding on the main colours and then applying them, I had to turn my board a quarter turn, reprime the whole surface with white gesso and obliterate all progress. The painting just wasn't working. Oh, there were sections that I really liked - but overall it was pants!

It started off as such an easy concept: get my family to draw, paint, digitally produce, or photograph, a wildflower for me to fit into a painting.

Job half done for me, methought!

But when Grandkid2, aged 4, produced an A4-sized intense yellow dandelion head, I knew things could get tricky! And yes, everyone's style and colour combos were quite diverse. Double Heck!

But I couldn't stop now. Not after everyone had put so much effort in. And everyone had to be represented. So I carefully cut out everyone's flower - leaving a white edge so that their own outline remained in tact, and I cobbled together a picture. It's called, 'A Mixed Bunch', (see above).

I liked the concept of a family effort. So if anyone out there wants to commission me to include their efforts into their own famiy pic - I'd like to consider it.

I like a challenge!
