Mirror, mirror

I have quite a few mirrors dotted around my house. I expect everyone does. From a decor perspective, it helps bounce light around.

I don't for a second think it's because I'm vain!

I'm past the stage of checking that I have applied an equal amount of eyeliner and/or eye powder to each eye. Anyway, I often don't bother, and go eye-commando.

But I DO check the shininess of my nose, which seems well polished - especially first thing in the morning. A quick dab of face powder soon sees to that though!

I don't bother with mascara that much, so it rarely needs to be checked for its waterproof qualitites, after I've been ambushed by a sudden downpour.

I've no time to decide if my eyebrows are on point, 'cos they've always been wayward - even when brushed into shape. I've tried to pencil them in, brushing powder into the spaces, but they always look, then, like I'm transporting a couple of large slugs under my fringe!

And, while on the subject of my fringe, one side does have a tendancy to stick up (a coo's lick), even when straightened severely with hot tongs. Over the years, I've just learnt to live with that. Just one of my hereditary quirks.

Much like my left index finger that has taken a far left turn at the top joint (an age thing). So much so, that if I were to point something out to a stranger, they would be left unsure by the number of choices it would offer!

More often than not, I look in mirrors to check my top for embarrassing coffee stains or biscuit crumbs. Or, to check if the mirror is grubby and needs a quick decht with a damp cloth. I like my house to look nice!

But please don't think I've become totally eccentric, and just don't care about my appearance.

You see, I just don't need to look in a mirror any more.

Not now I've got Hebe-the-dog.

To explain: on my daily walks, I've noticed so many dogs that look like their owners - their shape, colouring, facial expressions, even their gait seem so similar!

Dogs really mirror their owners. AND even vice versa.

Now Hebe-the-dog is quite ginger. But I have in the past dabbled in henna powder worked into a paste, applied and cured under a layer of tinfoil for 30 minutes, to colour my hair some hue of orange - usually goldfish!

Hebe-the-dog is now greying around the edges (ditto).

She has dark outlined eyes (ditto - I like a bit of eyeliner).

She has pronounced frown lines (which worry me).

And she does have a tendancy to grumpiness when she's tired (ditto).

She's small but not skinny (ditto).

She is not afraid to bark her opinion at anyone who'll listen (ditto).

But she is generally placid and good-natured (hopefully ditto).

She's really not a bad example of a meme.

Things could have been a whole lot worse: I could have opted for a Schnauzer - or, God forbid, a Pug!

Sorry Pug owners!
