Hi ! I'm ambivalent about decor that involves phrasing. Like cushions that say Relax and Home on them - as if you were to sit down and (a) forget what to do and (b) where you were? Likewise, plates with Spaghetti and Penne on them 'cos what happens if you have no pasta and are dishing up tatties instead - wouldn't that be so wrong AND confusing?
I don't like jewellery with Mum, or God forbid, Granny on it! I suppose t shirts with slogans are okay, even tattoes, 'cos, as the wearer, you don't actually see that much of them yourself. Not all the time. And those wall decals telling you to Live, Laugh and Love; Time is precious, waste it wisely; Believe you can and you're half-way there - just get on my goat! Some are quite funny though: Families are like almond fudge - mostly sweet with a few nuts; Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life. Or thought-provoking: Life always gives you a second chance - it's called Tomorrow. But funny & interesting for how long? A couple of glances maybe?
But words in other situations can be very persuasive. I saw an advert in the local baker's window which read, Calm down and Eat a Dream Ring, (an Inverness delicacy; a sweet donut-shaped, iced cream-cookie). So I did. It worked and I'm so much calmer now!
