I'm painting like fury.
No, nothing on board, canvas or paper - house walls!
After spending 2 years in a mid-cream livingroom & kitchen in my last abode, Daughter1 commented, 'Aren't you fed up with Taupe yet?'
I had sorta snuggled into Taupe, like a kitten into a squishy cushion. It felt comfy and safe - and bland enough to encourage prospective buyers! But Daughter1 was right - I now crave colour like a slimmer craves just 2 chocolate brownies, or like an alcy craves a pint and a double Johnny Walker.
While absentmindedly pondering the possibilities of colours, and watching a home makeover programme, I was astonished to hear the presenter state, 'We'll need to rein in her use of colour!' This meant persuading the homeowner to opt for Grey, rather than the Pineapple Yellow she intended to use.
So I went into town and picked up some shade cards. The ironmonger only sells 2 brands of paint, so that makes choosing easier! Once home, I opened the leaflet and was presented with a selection of Greys - all with poetic names, but all sludgy all the same.
When I think of Greys, I only see dirty water, muddy clothes, sodden dogs - things of that ilk. Not colours that sit happily with me - personally!
The ironmonger also mixes paint in these 2 brands. ANY COLOUR! I elected to try Red Stallion.
It took 4 coats of Red Stallion to properly blot out the Taupe on my chimney wall. I teamed the neighbouring walls with Timeless, (a yellow-tinged white). The result was a butcher's apron. Really not my thing either!
Drastic measures ensued. I flirted with reinstating just one Taupe wall. No, don't do it! Stay wilder!
Then I mixed my own colour. I call it Red Mare. It is a mix of Red Stallion, Tangerine Dream (inside my bedroom wardrobe), and Peppermint Green (kitchen walls). It turned out a dark Vermillion. Just one wall. Beside the chimney wall. This Red Mare wall incorporates a built-in bookcase.
The back of this bookshelf is now ombred: 2 x shelves Red Stallion, 2 x shelves Red Mare, and 2 x shelves Red Foal (Red Mare mixed with Timeless).
The effect is bold and unbridled! I love it!
Grey trend successfully bucked!
